Soccer

Soccer Ability League(SAL)
The SAL Soccer League lets children with disabilities enjoy the fun and friendship of athletics by playing soccer. This league is non-scoring and uses the “Buddy System” to assist the participants with learning skills necessary to have fun playing soccer.
When: Saturdays August 14, 21, 28, September 11, & 18
Where: County Administration Field
Kickball

This league, which is non-competitive, is designed to help special needs children enjoy the full benefits of athletics in an environment structured to their abilities.
League is a non-scoring and uses the
“Buddy System”.
When: (2010 Season): Tuesdays June 8, 15, 22, 29, July 6, & 13
Where: Powhatan Elementary School Field
Time: 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Age: 5-18 Registration Form on the Back
Cost: Smiles, Laughter and FUN! $0 (no cost involved)

Buddy Ball

Powhatan County Parks and Recreation Department Presents Buddy Ball in the Spring! Buddy Ball is for all children, ages 5-18 that have either or both physical or mental challenges. Everyone bats, no outs and all kids cross the home plate! Each child will receive a shirt and hat. Volunteers or “buddies” are assigned to each team to help assist in batting or fielding, to build friendships and to enjoy the love of baseball with the kids.
When (2010 Season): April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, & 22
Where: Ace Diamond Field (across for War Memorial Building)
Time: 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Age: 5-18 Registration Form on the Back
Cost: Smiles, Laughter and FUN! $0 (no cost involved)

The Powhatan County Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Division
The Powhatan County Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Division uses education and recreation services to help people with illnesses, disabilities and other conditions to develop and use their leisure in ways that will enhance their health, functional abilities, independence and quality of life. Target population is children and adults, ages 3 and up, with any type of disability.
Through our therapeutic recreation programs we strive to:
- provide education on the constructive use of leisure;
- reduce boredom
- alleviate stress and anxiety;
- introduce new recreation and cultural opportunities;
- develop self esteem through recreation participation;
- provide emotional and social support to participants;
- adapt activities, as necessary, to ensure the success of participant.

Volunteers
A very important part of the therapeutic recreation services program is our volunteers. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available for those ages 13 and above, including students who need service hours. Therapeutic Recreation Services offers an outstanding internship program for college students majoring in therapeutic recreation.
